PREFACE.
It ig with feelings of no ordinary satisfaction that the Proprietors of
the Glasgow Post-Ofpice DraEOTOBT, usher iuto existence their Twenty-
first Aniiual Publication, which to the Trader, the Merchant, and the
Public generally, has now become an indispensable Work of reference
and information. The Proprietors refer with considerable pride to the
splendid Map of the City and Suburbs, which for the first time adorns
their Work, and it is hoped, upon minute examination, will be found
correct, and which they feel satisfied will be appreciated by the Public,
It is possible that some omissions may be detected, and should any such
exist, the Proprietors will not fail to have such supplied in next year's
Publication. The Public will not fail to perceive that the external ap-
pearance of the Work, is this year greatly improved, and although great
expence has necessarily been incurred, the Proprietors, in answer to a
previous announcement, have received such an assurance of increased,
support and patronage as fully meets their most sanguine expectations,
and that without resorting to what they deem a disagreeable necessity,
viz., raising the price of the Work, for which support they take this
opportunity of tendering their warmest thanks. While the external,
and what may be considered the subordinate parts of the Publication are
improved, the internal arrangements will be found so complete in
every part, as to warrant the Proprietors in inviting comparison with
any similar Work in the Kingdom; the Proprietors, however, will feel
it their duty as well as their interest, still further to make such improve-
ments as time and circumstances may require: confidently relying on
the patronage and support which in past years has so liberally rewarded
their exertions.
