Foreword
Ada Pellow was a much valued and very active member of Tay Valley Family
History Society until her death in 1997. She served on the Council and was for
some years our Secretary. Her grandfather had been Pellow, of John Pellow & Co.
Ltd. the well-known printer in Lintrathen Street Dundee who had published this
register. Ada's particular interest was in the people, buildings and businesses of
18 th century Dundee and in gathering as much information as possible about this
city, her birthplace. She gave us a copy of the information in this register which we
first published in parts in our journals some years ago. While preparing this book
our Publications Co-ordinator, Jack Scott, has found records of two of his lost
ancestors so we are hoping this publication may prove equally helpful to many of
you. It was Ada Pellow who compiled the booklets of Tay Valley People, which
were our very first publications. I know she would be pleased that we are making
this information available again. I wish to place on record our appreciation of all the
work she did for us.
Margaret S.C. Mill, Chairman, February 2003.
