The object of the institution is to place within the
reach of the public the fullest and most recent infor-
mation on all subjects of general interest, whether
commercial, literary, or scientific ; to provide an
agreeable place of resort in the intervals of business ;
to excite, especially among young men, a taste for
intellectual and elevating pursuits ; and to secure
the means of its gratification by aflFording the utmost
facilities for systematic study, in various branches of
useful knowledge. The newsroom is abundantly
supplied with the earliest telegraphic intelligence,
newspapers, and periodicals ; and the library contains
upwards of 24,000 volumes. Restaurant, recreation
rooms, magazine and writing rooms for the use of
ladies and gentlemen. Private letter boxes, and
many other conveniences are provided for the
members. Terms of subscription : —
Life subscriber's ticket, gentlemen, transferable,
£21, not transferable, £15 15s.; ladies, not trans-
ferable, £7 7s.; for gentlemen above 21 years of
age, 25s. annually, 7s. 6d. quarterly ; for gentlemen
under 21 years of age, 15s, annually, 5s. quarterly;
ladies, 15s. annually; country subscribers, 15s,
annually. Entrance fees. — Gentlemen, 5s. ; ladies,
country subscribers, young men under 21 years of
age, and quarterly subscribers, 2s. 6d. each.

Morning and Evening Classes (open to both sexes)
are conducted by experienced Masters, the following
subjects being included in the Curriculum: — Arith-
metic, Mathematics, English, French, German,
Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Latin, Greek, Shorthand,
Type-writing, Writing, Book-keeping and Account-
ing, Mercantile Law, Logic, Political Economy, also
Organised Course of Commercial Education. The
session extends from September till April.
Special Afternoon Classes for Ladies.
CIVIL SERVICE, UNIVERSITY, AND PROFESSIONAL
DEPARTMENT.
Day, Evening, and Correspondence Classes for all
examinations, under the direction of experienced
Masters. Students can be enrolled at any date.

The Athenaeum School of Music has been established
for the purpose of providing a thorough high-class
musical education on moderate terms, combined with
all the advantages which have proved so successful
apd so beneficial in the promotion of musical culture
in the Continental Conservatoires and the Music
Schools in London and elsewhere.

HUTGHESONS' EDUCATIONAL TRUST.
(Constituted by Scheme No. 9 under the Educationa'
Endowments (Scotland) Act, 1882.)
The income is applied to the maintenance of a
grammar school for boys and a higher class school
for girls ; the education of foundationers, and to free
scholarships, school bursaries, university and techni-
cal college bursaries ; also higher education bursaries
for girls. Subsidies are paid to the Glasgow and West
of Scotland Technical College, and to the Glasgow
School of Ai't and Haldane's Academy. Interim

GAELIC SOCIETY OF GLASGOW.

The objects of the Society are: — The cultivation of
the Gaelic Language ; the cultivation and development
of Celtic Philology, Literature, and Music ; the
elucidation of Celtic antiquities ; and the fostering of
a Celtic spirit among the Highlanders of Glasgow.
Persons of Celtic extraction, or such as take an interest
in its objects, are eligible to become members. The
Subscriptions of Members to the Funds of the Society
are: — Life Members, one payment of £2 2s. ; Honorary
Members, annually, Ladies 3s., Gentlemen 7s. 6d. ;
Ordinary Members, annually — Ladies Is , gentlemen
3s. The Society meets in the Religious Institution
Rooms, Buchanan Street, on the last Tuesday of each
Month, from October to AprQ.

Medical students at Glasgow University, and to

eligible are students of Highland descent^ whose
circumstances appear to the Managers to require
assistance,
