BUCHANAN INSTITUTION.
47 Greenhead Street.
Founded on a bequest to the city of Glasgow by
the late James Buchanan, Esq., for the maintenance,
education, and industrial training of destitute boys.
Administered under a scheme issued by Educational
Endowments Commissioners, 8th February, 1890.
The pupils reside with their friends at night, but
receive three substantial meals daily at the institution.
They are taught reading, writing, and arithmetic,
besides gymnastics, tailoring, and carpentry, to fit
them for the navy and army, the merchant and marine
service, and as emigrants to the colonies Three
hundred boys are educated and maintained at the
institution, which is annually examined by one of
H.M. inspectors.

THE GLASGOW GENERAL EDUCATIONAL
ENDOWMENTS BOARD.
(Constituted by Scheme No. 11 under the Educa-
tional Endowments (Scotland) Act, 1882.)
The scheme embraces the following endowments :
Muir's School Fund, Millar and Peadie's School,
Wilson's School, Gardner's School, M'Lachlan's School,
and Graham's School. The scheme provides for the
awarding of free scholarships, school bursaries, techni-
cal and higher education bm'saries, bursaries for even-
ing classes, &c. The bursaries are awarded among
pupils of public or state-aided schools in Glasgow,
or public or state-aided schools in the district of the
School Board of Cathcart, or of any School Board
contiguous to and immediately adjoining the district
of the School Board of the burgh of Glasgow. Secre-

ENDOWMENTS BOARD.

tional Endowments (Scotland) Act, 1882.)
The scheme embraces the following endowments ;
Anderson's School, Dr. A. Bell's Bequest, Coulter's
Mortification, Scotstarvit Mortification, Murdoch's
School, Hood's School, Maxwell School, Alexander's
Endowment, M'Grigor's Bequest, Macfarlane's School
and M'Millan's Bequest. The scheme makes provi-
sion for the maintenance of a school for boys, free
scholarships, school bursaries, bursaries for technical
and higher education, universitybursaries and advanced
evening class bursaries ; and a subsidy is paid to the
West of Scotland Technical College. The bursaries
are awarded among pupils of public or state-aided
schools in Glasgow, or of any school maintained

THE LOGAN AND JOHNSTON SCHOOL OF
DOMESTIC ECONOMY.
(Constituted by Scheme No. 149 under the Educa-
tional Endowments (Scotland) Act, 1882.)
This school, which has been built on the site of
the original school in Greenhead Street, was recently
opened, and the scheme is now in operation. The
subjects of instruction are (1) sewing, (2) cooking,
(3) washing and laundry work ; other subjects of a
similar nature may be introduced. A certain num-
ber of girls (age 12 to 16) are admitted on the foun-
dation and receive their instruction free. They are
fed on the premises and receive an allowance for cloth-
ing. Classes are also open to the public on payment
