CHARITABLE AND FRIENDLY INSTITUriONS.
GROCER COMPANY OF GLASGOW.
This Society was instituted in 1789 for the pmpose
of raising a fund to be applied towards the relief of
members, and the widows and children of members,
who might from misfortune require pecuniary aid.
Persons eligible for admission are grocers, or im-
porters of, or dealers in, one or other of the articles
afier-mentioned, or is the managing Director of a
Company registered under the Companies Acts,
1862 to 1890, and carrying on the business of a
grocer or an importer of, or dealer in, one or other
of the following articles — namely, tea, coffee, sugar,
spices, fruits, wines, spirits, porter, soap, ashes, and
importers of or wholesale dealers in butter or cheese,
who reside or have their places of business in Glas-
gow or its suburbs. The payment for admission is
Twelve Guineas for persons under forty years of
age, and Fifteen Guineas for persons of forty years
of age or upwaids.

BROWNS' SOCIETY OF GLASGOW.
Members of this society must be of the name of
Brown, or husbands, wives, or descendants of persons
of that name. Each entrant shall contribute Five
Guineas, except sons-in-law and daughters-in-law
of members, who shall contribute Three Guineas,
and husbands, wives, sons, and daughters of members,
who shall contribute Two Guineas, but a larger con-
tribution may be given by any one so disposed. Dona-
tions are received from persons of any name, and every
contributor of one guinea, at least, shall be considered
an honorary member. The annual General Meeting is
held in the second week of March ; Managers'
meetings in the first weeks of March, June,
Sep., and Dec. The annual produce of the capital
stock is from time to time applied towards relieving
necessitous members, or their widows or children, and
may be employed in placing the children of indigent

^MISSION TO THE OUT-DOOR BLIND /OR
GLASGOW AND THE WEST OF SCOTIAND '
(Instituted 1859),
Has under its care 1532 blind persons, rffiident ini
Glasgow and the counties of Lanark, Renfrew, Ayr,
Dumbarton, Argyle, and Bute. These blind persons
are sought out, visited at their own houses, taught to
read, and provided with books in raised type free of
charge. The great majority being deprived of sight
at, or near, middle life, and being thereby rendered
unfit to follow their ordinary occupations, means are
used to find employment for them suited to their
altered circumstances, and the aged and infirm are
assisted by monthly aliments.

CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.

The object of this society is to prevent by every
legitimate means cruelty to animals. It is supported
by voluntary contributions, and was established in
1856.
An annual subscription of one guinea constitutes
membership, and a donation of five guineas consti-
tutes life membership of the society.
Sums of 28. 6d. and upwards will appear with sub-
scribers' names and addresses in the annual report.
Legacies and donations are gratefully received and
acknowledged.

WEAVERS' SOCIETY OF ANDERSTON.

this Society is to afford charitable aid to such
of its members and their widows as may be reduced
to destitute circumstances. The fee or entry money,
payable by a son or son-in-law of a member, or
by an apprentice indentured to a member (a weaver
by trade), is £5 6s., and by all others £21; with
interest in each case at 6 per cent, simple interest
for each year applicant exceeds 30, taking age at
next birthday.
