THE GLASGOW SICK POOR AND PRIVATE
NURSING ASSOCIATION.
Affiliated to the Queen Victoria Jubilee Institute
for Nurses.
(Founded by the late MaryO. Higginhotham, 1875.)
Under the patronage of H.R.H. the Princess Louise.
The object of this association is to provide trained
and experienced women of high character as district
nurses, to attend the sick poor in their own homes,
free of charge, and to provide them, if it be thought
advisable, with food, medicine, surgical appliances,
clothing, bedding, or change of residence, either
gratuitously or otherwise. A staff of medical, surgical,
and fever nurses is also kept for those who are able
to pay for their services.

The objects of the Club are — (1) The social and
rational enjoyment of the members; (2) the relief
of poor natives of Kintyre, or their children, resident
in Glasgow aad neighbourhood ; (3) the promotion of
education by granting medals and prize books to the
schools in Kintyre, and bursaries to Kintyre students
in the University of Glasgow.
Gentlemen are admitted free members by the pay-
ment of three guineas. Honorary members' fee — ■
two guineas; lady associates' fee, 10s. 6d.
THE GLASGOW EASTWOOD CLUB.

This society was instituted in 1797 by several
gentlemen residing in or near Glasgow connected by
birth or otherwise with the parish of Eastwood, for
the purpose of holding a social meeting once a year,
and of collecting a sum of money for distribution
among the deserving poor of that parish. About
£120 is annually distributed at the end of December.
Last year the usual grant of 12s. each was distributed
among 202 poor persons. The annual meeting is
held on the second Wednesday of December, to which
all connected with the parish of Eastwood are invited.
GLASGOW KYRLE SOCIETY.

The Society is divided into the following sections—
(1) Music — Concerts are given in poor localities by
the choir ; secy., Mr. W. R. Baxter, 64 Great George
Street. (2) Decorations — The walls of infirmary
wards, mission halls, &c., are decorated by gifts
of pictures, &c. ; secretary. Miss C. Henderson,
17 Belhaveu Terrace. (3) Window Gardening —
The taste for flower growing is fostered among poor
children by the distribution of plants and seeds;
secretary, Mrs. Bradock, 1 South Park Terrace,
Hillhead. (4) Sanitary aid — Information on health
and sanitary subjects is given at mothers' meetings,
girls' classes, &c. ; secretary, Mrs. Frame, 11 Great
Western Ter. (5) Housing of the Poor — To improve
the condition of the dwellings of the working classes
in the city ; Secretary, Miss M. Blackie, 1 Belhaven
Terrace.
VICTORIA INFIRMARY OF GLASGOW DORCAS
SOCIETY.

Objects— (1.) To provide warm clothing for necessi-
tous patients about to leave the infirmary. (2.)
To provide medical and surgical appliances for poor
patients when leaving the infirmary for their own
homes. (3 ) To give temporary assistance, when
required, to the families of patieLts. (4.) To afford
temporary help to deserving patients after they leave
the infirmary, and while still unable to work. (5.)
To provide, when necessary, cabs for poor and in-
firm patients to convey them home, and to pay the
railway fares of those from a distance. (6.) To pro-
cure lines for patients for convalescent homes, and,
when necessary, to pay their railway fares to and
from the same.
GLASGOW HOME FOR DESERTED MOTHERS,
The home was established to supply a temporary
shelter and maintenance for destitute and houseless
mothers and their helpless infants. Only those who,
for the first time, have been led astray are admitted,
and it is no part of the home to make matters light
and easy for the girls and thereby probably encourage
sin. The anxious aim and desire of all connected
with the Institution is to prevent them falling into
despair, and so deepening their difficulties. Every
effort is made to procure suitable situations for the
mothers, who are expected (except under peculiar and
exceptional circumstances) to defray all necessary
expenses connected with the rearing and upbringing of
their children.
