GLASGOW & WEST OF SCOTLAND MISSION

The Mission, which is pre-eminently a slum one,
is evangelical in its doctrines, unsectarian in its opera-
tions, and is supported by voluntary contributions.
The aflPairs of the society are managed by a committee
of fourteen. Free breakfasts and teas are given weekly
during the cold weather. The industrial branch of
the mission sends out strong reliable women to wash
and clean by the day or hour. All communications

WEST COAST MISSION; OR, THE SOCIETY
FOR THE PROMOTION OF RELIGION IN
THE WEST HIGHLANDS AND ISLANDS OF
SCOTLAND.
This mission was instituted in 1855. Its object
is the spread of the Gospel amongst the scattered
population of the western islands and sea-boards of
Scotland. There are twenty-seven agents engaged
in this work. Its fundamental principles are evan-
gelical and unsectarian.

GLASGOW YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN
ASSOCIATION.

The object of the Association is to promote the
religious, moral, and temporal welfare of young women.
Refreshment and reading rooms are open daily.
Educational classes and religious meetings are held.
There is a large Boarding House for young women
engaged in business, a Registry for female servants, and
a Restaurant at the Institute, 80 Bath Street.
Similar meetings, classes, &c., are provided at the
Bridgeton Institute of the Association, 36 Muslin
St., Bridgeton, where there is also a Boarding House
for young women.
SCOTTISH BAND OF HOPE UNION.

The Union aims at training the youth of Scotlai:
to abstain from alcoholic drinks as beverages throug
the formation of Bands of Hope in connection wii
the Churches or Sabbath Schools. There are no
725 Bands of Hope connected with the Union sea
tered over all the counties in Scotland. Through i
various agencies, it is becoming very widely instn
mental in training the young to hate and fear stror
drink. There has also been temperance teaching i
country day-schools. Lectures on nature knov
ledge subjects have been delivered in 564 school!
connected with 220 Boards, attended by aboi
50,000 young people and teachers.
GLASGOW SEAMEN'S EVANGELISTIC
MISSION.
Bethel — The Ferry, 10 Springfield Quay, s.s.
Object — The spiritual and social well-being of se:
men and their families. The work is carried on by
pastor and missionary, assisted by about fori
voluntary workers. Seven in-door and two opei
air services are held weekly. Tracts in Engli:
and in foreign languages are distributed free
among the men. The ships and sailors' fam
lies are visited regularly, and the men of the sea a
influenced in every way for good. Other ports ha'
more than one such society, and the needs of Glasgoi
along with the great success which has followed tl
efforts of this Mission, will abundantly justify i
existence. The Seamen's Mission is dependent upc
voluntary contributions, which may be sent to tl

THE BOYS' BRIGADE.

The object of the Brigade is the advanc
ment of Christ's Kingdom among Boys, and the pr
motion of habits of obedience, reverence, disciplir
self-respect, and all that tends towards a true Christi;
manhness. The Brigade was instituted in 1883, ai
is composed of 1950 companies connected wi
churches, missions, and other Christian organisatio
in the United Kingdom and throughout the Colonit
with a membership of 87,000.
THE GLASGOW BATTALION OF THE BOYs' BEIGAI
is composed of all the Glasgow companies, the office
of which constitute the Glasgow Battalion connc

companies in the Glasgow Battalion (June, 190c
with a membership of 526 officers and 6256 boys.
THE THEOSOPHIGAL SOCIETY
