Perth Reading Society, founded in 1797, for the purpose of
supplying its members with cheap and useful reading. The Library
is very rich in History, — Library-room, Kirk-close, High street.
Open on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, from 6 till 9.
Perth Philosophical Society, instituted in 1837, for mu-
tual instruction in the knowledge of Physical Science by means of
voluntary Lectures delivered by the members, accompanied by suit-
able illustrative experiments. — Meets once-a-fortnight on Friday
Perth Dialectic Society, instituted in 1833, for the intel-
lectual improvement of its members by means of Debates and Es-
says on subjects of general interest and utility in History, Litera-
ture, and Politics. — Meets every Wednesday evening, at 9 o'clock,
in the North Secession Session-house.
Perth Choral Society, established in 1835 by a number of
Musical Amateurs for mutual improvement in Vocal Music. — Meets
every Monday evening, at 9 o'clock, in Mr. Martin's Room, Ba-
rossa street.
Perth Law Debating Society meets in the Burgh Court-
Room every Saturday morning. — The Members preside in rotation.
