NEW LICENSING SYSTEM.
The granting of Licenses is now regulated by the act 9 Geo. IV.
cap. 58, entituled, " An Act to regulate the granting of Certificates
by Justices of the Peace and Magistrates, authorizing persons to
keep common inns, alehouses, and victualling houses in Scotland,
in which ale, beer, spirits, wine, and other exciseable liquors may
be sold by retail under Excise Licenses, and for the better regula-
tion of such houses, and for the preventing of such houses being
kept without such Certificates.'' By this act, the Magistrates of
Burghs are required to meet on the last Tuesday of April and the
last Tuesday of October, in each year, to consider the applications
for License Certificates within burgh, and the Justices of Peace on
the first Tuesday of May and last Tuesday of October in the county,
with power to adjourn for seven lawful days after each meeting.
The applications must be lodged, and a fee of 2s. paid, ten days pre-
vious to such meeting ; and the Magistrates and Justices are re-
stricted from granting Certificates except at these statutary periods.
The Justices are also empowered to divide their counties into dis-
tricts, for the purpose of carrying into effect the provisions of the
act. — The following is the Perth District of the county, as appoint-
ed by the Q,uarter-Sessions on 20th September, 1828, viz. Aberdal-
gie, Abernethy, Arngask, Dunbarney, Dron, Dunning, Forgandenny,
Forteviot, Findogask, KinnouU, Methven, Moneydie, Redgorton,
Rhynd, Scone, Tibbermore, Perth.
CUSTOMS AND EXCISE.

Alexander More, Deputy-Collector ; Alexander Matthew, Deputy-
Comptroller ; Joseph Blyth, Locker. — Attendance every lawful day
from 10 till 3; Saturday, from 10 till 12. — Holidays, Queen's
birthday, Christmas, and Good Friday.
Excise Office, 37, St. John street. — John Anderson, Collec-
tor ; Alexander Malcolm, clerk ; John Sage, supervisor. — Hours of
attendance from 10 till 3 ; Saturday, from 10 till 12.
