to form any very complete classification under this
head. Corn, coal, and wine merchants excepted,
to all grades of which the word is applied, a mer-
chant means in London one whose trade consists
wholly or chiefly of transactions with foreign coun -
tries ; whereas "" merchant " here is synonymous
