BURNTISLAND,
J?aL royal burgh, seaport, and post town, in the
county of Fife, six miles from Kirkaldy, 2 from King-
horn, and 8f from Dysart, is pleasantly situated on
the banks of the Fritli of Forth, upon a peninsula,
partly surrounded by hills towards the north, in the
fOna of aa amphitheatre. These lie aboul half a
mile from the town, and shelter it from the north-
erly gales. It was constituted a royal burgh by
James VI, is well supplied with water, antlposr
sesses a harbour inferior to few in Scotland,. Bucnt-
