BAILLIE'S INSTITUTION FREE PUBLIC
LIBRARY.

The library was opened on 29th September, 1887,
and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The
admission is free. The library contains upwards of
14,000 volumes, and is being continually added to
by the purchase of standard works of literature,
'iiistory, science, philosophy, and art, including many
editions of the classics and valuable works of service
to industrial and technological students.
The governors are elected by the Faculty of Pro-
■curators, the Magistrates and Town Council of Glas-
■gow, the Senatus of the University of Glasgow, the
Faculty of Physicians and. Surgeons, the Directors
of the Merchants House of Glasgow, and the Repre-
sentatives of the Trades House of Glasgow — the Dean
of the Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow being the
Preceptor. Librarian, Mr. Wm. Simpson ; clerk and
v;hamberlain, Thos. Stout, 178 St. Vincent St.
ROYAL EXCHANGE ROOMS
deceives regularly all the latest home and foreign tele-
grams, and the London, English, Provincial, Scotch,
-and Irish newspapers and Directories ; also, Commer-
\:ial Lists, French, German, Colonial, Canton, Indian,
and American papers, with all the leading reviews,
magazines, &c. Open daily from 8 morning till 7
evening. Strangers resident beyond 45 miles, having
'flo busiaess connection with city, introduced by sub-
scribers not charged, unless they attend for more than
four weeks. Telegraph and telephone offices in vesti-
bule. Subscribers are allowed theyVee use of the
"telephone from the Vestibule Call OflBce to subscribers
[n the city on production of their Royal Exchange
tickets of membership.
