The session begins in the first week of September,
1897. The com-se of study comprises practical in-
struction in plain and figured weaving, from the simple
to the complex process. Instruction given in making
working plans and drafts for the use of mounters,
weavers, enterers, harness tyers, and designers. Vari-
ous methods of experimenting with hand looms taught,
and facilities provided to enable students to acquire a
thorough knowledge of power looms. Hand and power
looms will be set apart for the purpose of being taken
down and put up into working order by the students.
Pattern sketching, and drawing designs upon lined
paper, and their production by the loom, will form an im-
portant part of the instruction. The analysis of woven
fabrics, the method of ascertaining the exact cost of
goods, the size of yams, and generally all matters
bearing upon the art of weaving taught.
Day classes, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays;,
initiatory, from 10 a.m. till 12 noon ; advanced, from
12 noon till 2 p.m. Evening classes, initiatory, Mon-
days and Thursdays, from 7 till 9 p.m. ; advanced,

THE LOGAN AND JOHNSTON SCHOOL OP
DOMESTIC ECONOMY.
(Constituted by Scheme No. 149 under the Educa-
tional Endowments (Scotland) Act, 1882.)
This school, which has been built on the site of
the original school in Greenhead Street, was recently
opened, and the scheme is now in operation. The-
subjects of instruction are (1) sewing, (2) cooking,.
(3) washing and laundry work ; other subjects of a
similar nature may be introduced. A certain num-
ber of girls (age 12 to 16) are admitted on the foun-
dation and receive their instruction free. They are-
fed on the premises and receive an allowance for cloth-
ing. Classes are also open to the public on payment
