GLASGOW SEAMEN'S FRIEND SOCIETY.
Instituted 1822.

For seventy-five years this Society has been seelsing
the spiritual and temporal welfare of the sailors who
risit the port of Glasgow. Seven paid agents are
constantly at work, and the following summary, ex-
tracted from the current year's report, gives an idea
oi the extent and character of the work: — Summary
— religious services held, 1352; seamen and their
Friends attending the indoor gospel meetings, 108,383;
tea meetings and lime-light entertainments, 164 ;
/isits made by seamen to Institute, 210,780; visits
made by seamen to reading-rooms, south side, 39,450;
letters written by seamen, 4776; number who have
signed Total Abstinence Pledge, 593; tracts distri-
buted, 199,750; libraries, bags and parcels of read-
ing placed on board ships, 2683 ; visits made by
igents to ships, 4663 ; visits to families, 3566 ; visits
to boarding houses, 1849 ; lodgings given to destitute
seamen, 1962.
There is also ia connection with the Society, a
Ladies' Auxiliary Society working for the benefit of
;he widows of seamen, and at present there are about
200 widows under its care.
The expenditure of the Society this year will be
ibout £1400, and a ftirther sum of £600 is required
'or the relief of the widows of seamen — in all £2000.
Fhere is no endowment, but it is entirely supported
3y voluntary contributions. Help is earnestly solicited.

None are eligible as members of the society except'
persons of the name of Graham and their descendants!
)r those married to individuals of that name or their
lescendants. The entry-money to strangers is £5
ps., and to sons and other lineal descendants and
sons-in-law of members, £3 3s.

M 'ALPINE'S MORTIFICATION.
Founded in 1811 by Mrs. M'Alpine, who conveyed
to trustees her property for the maintenance of poor
men and women of the description given in her will
— the former receiving annually £10, and the latter
£5. The trustees are the Deacon Convener and the
Ministers of eight of the Established Churches.

GLASGOW CONVALESCENT HOME.
Lenzie.
The Board of Management consists of the members
selected by the subscribers and various public and
charitable bodies in the city of Glasgow. Williann
Ker, Esq., 27 West George Street, chairman.
The Home is situated at Lenzie, about a mile to
the south-east of the railway station. It has accom-
modation for 85 patients, of whom 30 are taken from
the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, and 45 from the general
pubUc resident in Glasgow and the neighbourhood,
and 10 from the Western Infirmary of Glasgow.
The subscribers to the Home have the privilege, of
recommending the general public patients.

KILMUN SEASIDE HOME.
A sea-side home at Kilmun for invalid poor,
whose health is likely to be restored by a couple of
weeks or so of fresh air, nourishing diet, and cheerful
surroundings, and who are entirely without the means
of securing such for themselves. It is capable of
accommodating about 100 persons, and is entirely
supported by voluntary contributions. Poverty and
infirmity are the sole qualifications of admission.
Since its institution upwards of 28,000 poor people
have had the benefit of it free of charge. James Airlie,
