THE EAST END GOSPEL MISSION
(70 Risk Street, CaltoD, Glasgow)
Churcli — Suffolk Street.
And Children's Sea Side Home and
Retreat, Dunoon.
This Mission has for its object the elevation, re-
ligiously and socially, of the masses of the city slums,
principally aiming at those who know no church or
';Other place of worship. In addition to preaching the
fGospel, whereby outcasts and fallen are brought to a
knowledge of the truth, their temporal wants are
cared for. Daring periods of distress, the Mission
has been the means of saving many poor families
from utter want and ruin, and to-day numbers are
hard-working respectable members of society, who,
if solely left to themselves, would be on the downward
path of sin and misery. The accounts of the Mission
are made up and vouched for annually and audited
by Robert Blair, Esq., C.A., whose certificate is
^appended thereto.
The Children's Home and Retreat at Dunoon has
proved a great boon to the little ones. As a provision
iagainst infection die children are examined by a
fmedical man in Glasgow before leaving, and again
|on iheir arrival at the Home, where the local medical
foificer attends periodically.
[ Owing to the difBculty experienced by mistresses
lia obtaming suitable servants, and of the latter in
Jobtaining employment, a Free Registry Office has
'been opened at 2 Sword Street, Gallowgate, as a
jdirect medium between mibtreases and servants.
jjThe characters of the latter are personally investi-
iWgated by the superintendent belore the servants
are recommended, and the result has been most
gratifying. No Jees whatever are charged. The
: I Mission is supported by voluntary subscriptions and
donations, and a copy of the Annual Report with
certified abstracts of accounts is sent to each subscriber.
i!!^T. G. A. Scott, superintendent; P. E. Fitzpatrick,
Isecretary.
