SOCIETY.
Instituted 1865.
The Society has for its object the religious, educa-
tional, and social elevation of the boys and girls of
Glasgow. Membership — 20,738 lads and girls, and
2656 voluntary workers. It has 82 branches in the
city and suburbs.

WEST COAST IMISSION; OR, THE SOCIETY
FOR THE PROMOTION OF RELIGION IN
THE WEST HIGHLANDS AND ISLANDS OF
SCOTLAND.
This mission was instituted in 1855. Its object
is the spread of the Gospel amongst the scattered
population of the western islands and sea-boards of
Scotland. There are twenty-seven agents engaged
in this work. Its fundamental principles are evan-
, gelical and unsectarian.

WORKING MEN'S EVANGELISTIC
ASSOCIATION.

This Society was instituted in 1870 by pious
operatives anxious to stem the tide of Popery in
Glasgow, and offer efiective opposition to the infidel's
propaganda coming to this city at set intervals from
London. They selected as the director of their mis-
sions Mr. Harry Alfred Long, author of '' Family and
Personal Names." Under his direction above a
million of books, tracts, and pamphlets have been
issued. Their hall is also utili7,ed to obtain employ-
ment for persons out of work, and in feeding and
clothing the destitute. Divine service is conducted
every Sabbath at 2 and 6.30 p.m. A prayer meeting is
held on Tuesday evenings, and lectures are delivered
in the course of the week. The association consists of an
bon. president. Sir J. N. Cuthbertson ; president,
Mr. John Rae, and twenty-six members of com-
mittee. Subscriptions may be sent to collector, Mr.
George Rae, 122 Ingram Street, or to secretary,
Mr. D. Burnside, 13 Davidson Street, Dalmarnock
Road, or to Mr. T. Craig, 39 St. Mungo Street.

Their mottoes are truth, temperance, charity, pure
religion, and practical Christianity. Their hope — the
promises made unto the fathers, combined with the
restitution of all things at the coming of the Messiah.

The Mission, which is pre-eminently a slum one,
is evangelical in its doctrines, unsectarian in its opera-
tions, and is supported by voluntary contributions.
The affairs of the society are managed by a committee
of fourteen. Free breakfasts and teas are given weekly
during the cold weather, and in connection with the
work there is a holiday home for respectable poor at
Kirn. The industrial branch of the mission sends
out strong reliable women to wash and clean by the
day or hour. All communications should be addressed,
