Grange Street.
Agnes Connell, Preses, I Wm. Dreghom, Clerk;^
Mrs. Jamieson, Treasurer, | John Coats, Officer,
ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY,
Thomas Morton, Esq., Proprietor and Keeper,
The Observatory is situated upon the most elevated
part of Kilmarnock, and commands an extensive view
of the surrounding country. On the top is a huge Tel-
escope, constructed on the Newtonian principle, its spec-
ulum being 9 and a half inches, and its focal length 9
feet 2 inches. Numberless are the improvements which
Mr Morton's ingenuity has effected upon this colossal
instrument, and its equal is not to be seen in Scotland.
Attached to it is a very fine Camera Obscura also made
by the gifted Proprietor.
PICTURE GALLERY.
William Tannock, Esq., Proprietor and Keeper.
Mr Tannock's Picture CJ-allery, Grange street, is one
of those institutions of which the inhabitants of Kilmar-
liock may be proud, and which is calculated to elevate
the moral and intellectual feelings of all who visit it.
Three rooms are literally filled with Pictures, chiefly by
the old Masters, and a combination of these, with a num-
berless variety of unique articles, " rich and rare," give
the Gallery a beautiful and picturesque appearance. As
it is daily open for inspection, the Public would find a
visit to it a treat of no ordinary description.
