In the year ending on 20th January, 1899, 1121 Policies, assuring the sum ot
£543,427, and producing Annual Premiums of £19,107, were issued.
The claims which have arisen in consequence of the death of 250 Policy-holders
amounted to £180,331. Both in number and amount these claims were within
those expected and provided for by the Company's calculations. The sum of
£4135 was paid under Endowment Assurance Policies, which matured during the
lifetime of the assured.
The accumulated funds increased during the year by £111,186, and now amount
*o £2,491,989. The ratio of expenses to Premium Income was 1.2 per cent, less
than in the previous year.
The Quinquennial Valuation of the Company's Liabilities under its Life Assurance
and Annuity Contracts has been made at 3 per cent., instead of as heretofore at 8^
per cent., net premiums only being valued. As the result of the more stringent tests
mow applied, the Reserves have been increased by £148,971.
The future profits are to be allocated in the following fixed
proportions : To Proprietors, One-tenth ; to Policy-holders, Nine-tenths.
