STATEMENT AND APPEAL.
I. The "Western Infirmary was opened in the beginning of November, 1874, with 200 beds,
t by the munificence of the late Mr. John Fieeland of Nice, the accommodation was increased
p 400 beds at a cost of £40,000. The new addition was opened in 1881, and was at once mad^
railable to the public.
II. During the year (ending 31st October, 1885) 24,034 out, and 3215 in-door patients were
eated, showing a total increase of 1771 as compared with the preceding twelve months.
The Freeland addition to the Infirmary being now fully occupied, it is estimated that the cost
T maintenance during the current year will be from £19,000 to £20,000; and as the ordinary
.come from all sources last year was under £14,000, the necessity for new and increased
ipport will readily be seen. The liberal spirit, however, in which all classes of the community
||ive hitherto supported the Institution gives the Managers confidence in believing that the
ijppeal which they now make will meet with a prompt and generous response.
ij
I III. The Managers take the liberty of drawing attention to the subjoined Form of Bequest, in
l|e hope that from this source they may be enabled gradually to accumulate a special fund from
ije investment of which, in so far as it is not required for contingencies, a considerable sup-
jlementary revenue may in time be derived.
JFORM OF BEaUEST TO THE WESTERN INFIRMARY.
