The Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, incorporated
ty roj'al charter in 1793, includes at present upwards
of 1000 members, representing the principal merchants,
manufacturers, and sliippers in the city and neigh-
bourhood, and is recognized as the principal medium
of communication with the Government and Legisla-
ture on all commercial matters. The executive power
is lodged in a board of thirty-sis directors, chosen at
the annual general meetings. The board meets for
the discussion of mercantile questions once a month,
or more frequently if found necessary.
THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS AND
SHIPBUILDERS IN SCOTLAND (INCOR-
PORATED).
Established to facilitate the eschange of informa-
tion and ideas amongst its members, to place on
record the results of esperience elicited in discussion,
and to promote the advancement of science and prac-
tice in Engineering and Shipbuilding. The General
Meetings of the Institution take place monthly from
October to April inclusive, in the Hall of the Insti-
tution, 207 Bath Street. Monthly meetings of
the Graduate Section are also held during the session.
The Transactions of the Institution are published
monthly during the session, and in volume form at
close of session. The hbrary of the institution con-
tains engineering and scientific works, and the Tran-
sactions of various societies.

just rights of the members, to watch over injurious
