The object of this Society is to endeavour to in
prove the condition of the poor by bringing to bea
within their homes and places of meeting the eleval
ing influences of natural and artistic beauty, and b
such means inspiring them with a taste for self-cultur
The Society is divided into the following sections-
(1) Music — Concerts are given in poor localities 1:
the choir; secretary, Mr. W. Smart, M.A., Nunholn
Dowanhill. (2) Decorations — The walls of infirmai
wards, mission halls, &c., are decorated by mun
paintings, gifts of pictures, &c.; secretary. Miss (
Henderson, 17 Belhaven Ter. (3) Window Gardec
ing — The taste for flower growing is fostered amon^
poor children by the distribution of plants and seeds:
