There are 224 Sabbath morning fellowship meet-
igs, and 4 sections, with reading rooms and educa-
onal classes, in connection with the Association,
ith a membership of over 8000. The reading rooms
t Christian Institute and sections are free to members,
nd special reduced rates are charged for the educational
lasses to those who arc connected with the Associa-
on. The circulating and reference libraries at
hristian Institute and sections are also free to
lembers. Young men coming from the country
Las lould get letters of introduction to the general
jcretary, who will recommend suitable lodgings and
itroduce them to Christian society.
Employers of labour and merchants are invited to
onsult the employment register at the Christian
3stitute before filling vacancies in their workshops
ofiices.
UNITED EVANGELISTIC ASSOCIATION.
This association was formed in 1874, for the pur-
3se of uniting the churches in evangelistic work
-jiHong the masses. In addition to ordinary evange-
' kic services, open air preaching, &c, a hall was
lilt in James IMorrison Street, at a cost of about
pL6,000, where a free breakfast is given every Sabbath
orning to upwards of 1500 people, gathered from
.e very poorest; and at 2 o'clock p.m., about 1000
por children receive a Bible lesson and a dinner.
,\vo Day Refuges have been carried on for some years,
bere children, who are entirely or worse than neglected
home, receive three meals a day, and are otherwise
Iped in their education. There are also two Homes
Saltcoats, in which neglected or abandoned chil-
fen are entirely supported. In connection with the
ildren's Sabbath dinner a committee meets every
. p,,j |iursday at 7-30 p.m., in the new hall, James Mor-
on street, to inquire into the cases of poor children
,t from any quarter. Income of the association,
all purposes, from voluntary contributions, about
000 per annum.

SCOTTISH PERMISSIVE BILL AND TEM-
PERANCE ASSOCIATION.
O'DJect. — The promotion of total abstinence as a
rale of life, the creation of an enlightened public
opinion in favour of the Suppression of all Traffic in
Intoxicating Liquors as beverages, and to secure,
through the united efforts of moral and social re-
formers, the passage into law of a measure framed to
effectually suppress that traffic by the direct votes
of the ratepayers.

amounted to £2520 4s. Gd. The surplus assets
amounted to £289 lis. 8d.
The number of meetings addressed by representa-
tives of the Association in the course of a year ranges
from 1200 to 1500. The Association fully employs
seven agents and secretary, besides agents in various
parts of the country, who are meantime partially
engaged. Scotland is divided into districts, with head-
quarters in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Perth,
Dumfries, and Peebles. The Association has increased
its Parliamentary position materially. Through its
exertions increasingly shared by kindred Associations
the result of the late general election has been to
largely increase the supporters of temperance and
prohibitory legislation in the House of Commons.
Thirty- five Scotch members are pledged to sup-
port the Bill which Mr. M'Lagan, M.P. for Lin-
lithgowshire, has introduced into Parliament, a bill
giving the ratepayers of Scotland power to abolish
all traffic in intoxicating liquors in their respec-
tive burghs, wards of burghs, parishes, and districts
when so minded, and the Executive have resolved to
give his measure a vigorous and sustained support. To
enable them to bring the influence of the Scottish
electorate to bear successfully upon the government
of the day, and in favour of this Bill of Mr. M'Lagan,
liberal subscriptions to the funds are urgently required,
and will be gratefully received at the offices or by the
agents. Subscribers to the Association of 10s. and
upwards yearly receive a copy of the Reformer weekly,
