ALUMIHIUM BROMZE.
MESSRS. BELL, BROTHERS,
NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE,
T>EG to call the attention of Engineers, Machine Makers, Saw-
"^ millers, Millowners, and others, to the superiority of Aluminium
Bronze as a substitute for Brass used as Bearings for Shafts.
This metal, when prepared fox that purpose, contains a mixture of
90 per cent- of copper, with 10 per cent, of aluminium. It melts at
the same temperature as copper, and possesses great malleability and
strength, which is much increased when hammered cold ; and from its
great hardness and diminished friction, bushes made of this metal
have lasted ten times as long as those made of the ordinary brass
composition.
Bushes made of Aluminium Bronze Metal do not require to be
made more than one-third of the ordinary thickness of brass bushes.
For small bearings the thickness is only |th of an inch, increasing in
proportion to the diameter of the journals, up to f ths thick for the
largest size.
This metal is particularly well adapted for saw-mills and other
machinery where the bearings are subjected to great tear and wear.
It has been in use for several years, and given great satisfaction for
its durability and other properties. This Aluminium Bronze is also
used for many other purposes, a particular account of which can be
had from the Subscriber, Sole Agent for Scotland ; and testimonials
and other information given on application.
