tinue to receive Proposals for LIFE ASSURANCE on the DEPOSIT PRIN-
CIPLE, as recently promulgated solely by this Company, and the United Deposit
Assurance Company of Edinburgh, particulars of which are to be found detailed in
the Pamphlets of the Deposit Department of this Company, now in circulation. It
may be here stated shortly, that Deposit Assurance, as carried on exclusively by
these two Companies, combines the advantages of Savings' Banks and Life Assur-
ance, as will be seen from the following illustration.
When a deposit is made on an approved life, whatever the sum may be — one
pound or one thousand pounds — it immediately commands two values — 1st, The con-
stantly increasing value of the sum or sums deposited, which, from the day when
deposited, remain at the entire control of the depositor, to be operated upon, in
â– whole or in part, as he may see fit. 2nd, The value which the sum deposited repre-
sents as an Assurance, payable on the party's death, whenever that event may
happen. ThuS, a party aged 20, for a sum of £60 deposited, will have, under the
assurance value £132 18s. 4d., payable to his heirs at his death, whenever that
may happen; at age 26, in like manner, £122 Is. 8d. ; at age 30, £112 6s. lOd. ;
at age 36, £103 16s., and so on, according to his age at the time of his paying in.
In operating upon the sum deposited and the increasing value thereof, this sum
is diminished to the extent of the amount withdrawn, while the Assurance value is
diminished to the extent corresponding to the sum payable at death which this
withdrawal represents.
For further information respecting this newly-adopted principle of Life Assur-
ance, reference is made to the pamphlet now in circulation, and to the Manager
