6d Porters'' Fares and Regulations,
themselves, and discreetly towards the public; to obey the instructions of the Ma-
gistrates ; and to assist the Police in cases of emergency, and on all occasions when
required by the Superintendent, or the officers acting under his authority.
10th. Porters contravening, or not conforming to these Regulations, will sub-
ject theraselves to a penalty not exceeding forty shillings; which penalty shall be
awarded, and the Regulations enforced in a summary manner, by the Sitting Ma-
gistrate in the Council Chambers or Police Court, who may also dismiss from said
employment, and deprive of their badge, such as shall offend.
For Cacrting.
A letter or parcel not exceeding 14 lbs., any distance not more than ^ of
a mile, ........
And for every additional | of a mile, .....
A parcel, or parcels, exceeding 14 lbs., and not exceeding £6 lbs., any dis-
tance not more than \ of a mile, ....
And for every additional J of a mile, .....
A parcel, or parcels, exceeding 56 lbs., and not exceeding 112 lbs., any
distance not more than | of a mile, .....
And for every additional f of a mUe, .....
Any load, on a barrow or hurley, exceeding 1 12 lbs., not more than ;| of a
mile, ........
For every additional | of a mile, .....
And when detained more than \ of an hour at loading or unloading, for
every additional 1^ of an hour, . . . . .02
One-half more to be charged after eight o'clock evening in the winter
season, and ten o'clock in the summer.
A back load to or from any shop or warehouse on the ground floor, to or
from any cart on the street, not exceeding 20 yards.
If more than one, for each additional load, ....
A back load up any close, more than 20 yards,
A back load up or down stairs, for every stair', or two half-stairs.
If more than one, for every additional stair, ....
Assisting at removings, when a considerable time is consumed: —
For the first hour, .......
For every other hour, ......
For every hurley load of furniture, not exceeding :^ of a mile.
For every other \ of a mile, ......
Assisting at the loading or unloading carts, weighing goods, etc. not
included in the above fares: —
For the first hour, ........

Acting generally as a porter ; For a whole day, or ten hours.

For carrying a cart of coals up stairs, where the distance from the stair to
where the coals is, is not more than 60 feet, for the first stair, . 3
For every other stair, . . . , . . Oil
For carrying a waggon of coals up stairs, the same distance as above, for the
first stair, . . . . . . . .06
For every other stair, . . . . . . . 3
For carrying a cart of coals from any street or lane to a cellar within 20 feet
from where the coals lie, if not down a stair, . . . .02
