Carters^ Fares and Begulatiom. QQ ^
No charge for Luggage under 56 lbs, -weight, — 6d. chargeable for Luggage
exceeding do.
No charge for Drivers. — Driver to produce Regulations when required,
20 — Mefiising or Delaying to talce a Fare. — If any Owner or Driver of any such
Carriage shall refuse or delay to take a fare, if not before enagaged ; or if any such
Owner or Driter, having agreed to take any fare, at any time, or from any place,
shal delay, neglect, or refuse so to do, every person so offending shall forfeit and pay
for each such oiFence, a sum not exceeding Twenty Shillings ; and for every offence
subsequent to a first offence, a sum not exceeding Forty Shillings.
38. Drivers taking any person on the Box without consent of Person hiring the
Carriage. — No Driver of any such Carriage shall take any person to ride upon the
box, or in or upon any part of such Carriage, without the permission of the person
or persons hiring the same first obtained.
FARES AND REGULATIONS FOR CARTERS PLTING FOR HIRE
WITHIN THE CITY OF GLASGOW.
At Glasgow^ the 8th day of June, 1808 years, — Which day the Magistrates and
Council of the City of Glasgow, being in Council assembled, there was produced a
Table of Fares payable to, and Regulations for thesgovernment of, the Carters,
plying for hire within the City, which had been drawn up by the Magistrates, after
consulting with some of the Merchants of the City, and a Committee of the Carters
On considering which Table of Fares and Regulations, the Magistrates and Council
approve thereof, and enact and ordain the ame to take place, and to be observed in
all time coming, from and after this date, under the several penalties therein con-
tained. And of which Table the tenor follows: —
I. The City shall be and is hereby divided into the following Districts, according'
to which the respective Rates of Carriage after-mentioned shall be exigible: —
First District. — To or from the Broomielawto Stockwell Street, Glassford Street,
and Frederick Street, up to the north side of George Square, including both sides
of these Streets, the whole of George Square, and every part of the City to the
west of these Streets, and also the upper side of George Street, west of Frederick
Street.
Second District — From the Streets last mentioned, along both sides of George
Street, to High Street, along Trongate and Gallowgate Streets, to the Spoutmouth.
including both sides of High Street, from George Street southward; also St. An-
drew's Square, and all the Streets and Lanes between the said Spoutmouth, west-
ward, to the first line of division.
Third District. — All the Streets, Lanes, and other places, within the City, to the
east of the second line of division, and to the north of George Street .
II. The following Fares and Rates of Cartage shall be exigible and payable in
the said respective divisions or districts.
