ADVERTISEMENTS. 197
GLASGOW
LAND-SURVEYING CHAIN MANUFACTORY.
ESTABLISHED 1824.
TO CIVIL ENGINEERS AND LAND-SURVEYORS.
ALEXANDER DICK,
Land-Surveying Chain and Safety Lamp Maker, and Plain and
Fancy Wire Worker,
10 Buchanan Buildings, 105 Stockwell Street, Glasgow,
TAKES this opportunity again to return his unfeigned thanks to those Gentlemen
who have honoured him with their kind favours since he commenced the above line,
and hopes, by prompt attention to their orders, as heretofore, still to merit a continuance
of their patronage.
A. D. would earnestly solicit the attention of those gentlemen who may not, as yet,
have given his Chains a trial, to do so ; being confident, from the flattering testimonials
received from eminent practical gentlemen, in different parts of the three kingdoms, of
their superiority, and besides being made of the very best Charcoal Springwire (nearly
as hard as steel), he feels confident a trial is only necessary to prove them second to none
now in use ; and to prevent counterfeit, ' Alexander Dick, Chainmaker, Glasgow? is on
the middle teller or counter of those chains warranted. The following is an abridged
list of his Prices, for Cash only.
Foot Link 100 Feet Chains.
100 feet long, 100 links, 200 round rings, and both made of No. 7 wire, with superior
improved strong wire handles, with brass tops and copper swivels, lis. 6d. each; and
with a set of No. 5 link, brass counters, 12s. 6d. each.
100 feet long, 100 links with long eyes and groov'd joints, 300 oval rings, and both
made of No. 7 wire, with superior improved strong wire handles, with brass tops and
copper swivels, 19s. each; and with a set of No. 5 link, brass counters, 20s. each ; but
with filed joints, 19s. each.
A Chain of the same kind, but links and rings made of No. 8 wire, 17s. each ; and
with a set of No. 5 link, brass counters, 18s. each ; but with filed joints, 17s. each.
A. D. would particularly recommend the Chains with long eyes and groov'd joints
(being his recent improvement), as the neatest and best he makes, with 300 oval rings ;
warrants them not to crank nor twist up, and less liable to stretch than those with round-
eyed links and round rings, being made in a superior style.
Scotch Surveying Chains, with or without the fractions, made only to Order.
Imperial or Link-Surveying Chains.
