THE object of this ASSOCIATION is to promote the knowledge and love of the FINE ARTS
and their general advancement by an extensive distribution of the WORKS of LIVING
ARTISTS, and to elevate ART and its PROFESSORS, by creating an increased desire for
their WORKS, and an improved taste on the part of the PUBLIC.
I. — It is under the direction of a Council of Members, who are chosen by the Subscribers at
the GENERAL MEETING, whose sex-vices are honorary, four of whom retire from office
annually.
II.— Subscribers of TEN SHILLINGS AND SIXPENCE are Members of the Association
for the year for which the Subscription is paid.
III. — The Funds of the Association are appropriated to the purchase of MODERN WORKS
OF ART, in PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS, and SCULPTURE, and these WORKS OF ART
are publicly distributed by Lot, at the Annual General Meeting of the Members, which will
be held in December, when each Subscriber shall be entitled to one chance for every HALF-
G U1NEA Subscribed ; and each Member who gains a Prize shall receive due intimation thereof.
IV.— No WORK OF ART, other than the bona fide production and property of the ARTIST,
shall be purchased by the Association.
V. — PRIZE-HOLDERS shall have the liberty of selecting the Work of Art most suited
to their taste, according to the number of the Prize, No. 1 having the first choice, and so on.
The Members of Council are making arrangements which will greatly increase the number
of Prizes among the Members. The chance thereby of obtaining Prizes will be greater than
in any similar Institution in the Kingdom.
*** The Council have earnestly to request that parties desirous of becoming Subscribers
will enrol their names as early as possible, so that they may be enabled to make their pur-
chases without loss of time.
Subscriptions received by any of the Members of Council, by the Honorary Secretaries
and Agents throughout the Country, and at the OFFICE OF THE ASSOCIATION, 11
West Nile Street, Glasgow.
1st June, 1855. JAMES PEARSTON, Secretary.
