THE object of this ASSOCIATION is to promote the knowledge and love of the
FINE ARTS in this City, and their general advancement by an extensive distri-
bution of the WORKS of LIVING ARTISTS, and to elevate ART and its PROFES-
SORS by creating an increased desire for their WORKS, and an improved taste on the
part of the PUBLIC.
I. — It is under the direction of a Council of Members, who are chosen by the
Subscribers at the GENERAL MEETING, whose services are honorary, four of whom
retire from office annually.
IL — Subscribers of Ten Shillings and Sixpence are Members of the Association
for the year for which the Subscription is paid.
III.— The Funds of the Association are appropriated to the purchase of MODERN
WORKS OF ART, in PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS, and SCULPTURE, and those
WORKS OF ART are publicly distributed by Lot, at the Annual General Meeting
of the Members, which will be held in June, when each Subscriber shall be entitled to
one chance for every HALF GUINEA Subscribed; and each Member who gains a
Prize shall receive due intimation thereof.
IV. — No WORK OF ART, other than the bonajide production and property of the
ARTIST, shall be purchased by the Association.
V— PRIZE-HOLDERS shall have the liberty of selecting the Work of Art most
suited to their taste, according to the number of the Prize, No. 1 having the first choice
and so on.
The Members of Council are particularly anxious to afford every encouragement
to NATIVE TALENT, by making purchases at the Annual Exhibitions in this
City, with a view to suit the taste and growing requirements of an enlightened Public.
Subscriptions received by any of the Members of Council, by the Honorary
Secretaries and Agents throughout the Country; and at the OFFICE OF THE
ASSOCIATION, 11 West Nile Street, Glasgow.
