M'ALPINE'S MORTIFICATION.
Founded, in 1811, by Mrs. M'Alpine,
■who conveyed to Trustees her property
for the maintenance of poor men and wo-
men of the description given in her will —
the former receiving annually £10, and
the latter £5. The trustees are, the Dea-
con Convener, two of the Bailies, and
the Ministers of eight of the Established
Churches.

Lord Raglan, Master General of Ordnance,
(by consent), Vice-Patrons ; J. R. Currie,

The institution of the Club was sig-
nalized by a special charter of approval
from the ' Illustrious Chief of Waterloo,'
and was afterwards honoured with ' The
Duke's ' distinguished patronage up to the
period of his ever-lamented decease. The
Members statedly celebrate an anniversary
festival in honour of Waterloo day.

This Society was instituted in the year
1759, and was incorporated by Seal of
