f 'HIS Incorporation affords unquestionable security to the public from the magnitude of
j^- its capital. By conducting its operations on an extensive scale, and over the whole
^' y^^ire, it is enabled to equalize those vicissitudes vrhich may arise from the influence of local
causes ; and from the success which has attended this National Establishment, it is perma-
nently placed on a secure basis.
FIRE DEPARTMENT.
Property, real and personal, of every description, may be insured on the most advantage-
ous terms ; common insurances of the first class at the reduced rates, and property, involving
more than ordinary hazard, at rates of premium commensurate with the value of the risks.
All losses, when satisfactorily ascertained, are immediately paid,
LIFE DEPARTMENT— PARTICIPATION IN PROFITS.
TWO-THIRDS of the profits are allotted at regular periods to the insured, WITHOUT
BEING SUBJECT TO ANY DEDUCTION FOR CHARGES OF MANAGE-
MENT. The first division will be made on 1st January 1842, The remaining one-third
will be reserved by the Incorporation as a compensation for undertaking the whole expense
of management, and for the security afforded by their capital against all possible contin-
gencies
REDUCED RATES. NO PROFITS.
To facilitate Loan transactions, a reduced scale of rates has been adopted, which will be
found particularly favourable to the Insured, especially for young and middle-aged persons.
Moderate rates are demanded for Insurance against the contingencies of foreign climates,
military or naval service, and voyages to distant countries ; also for healthy persons above
the age of sixty, and for persons of all ages, afilicted with gout, asthma, rupture, or other
serious maladies.
Prospectus, detailing more particularly the various advantages offered by this Incorpo-
ration to the public, with Tables of the rates both for Life and Fire Insurance, may be ob-
tained by applying at their Office, No, 47, George Street, Edinburgh, or at any of their au-
thorized Agents throughout the kingdom.

THIS COMPANY, established by Act of Parliament, affords the most perfect security
from an ample capital, and only requires, when an Insurance is for the whole period
of life, ONE-HALF of the very moderate Premiums to be paid for the first five years after the
date of the Policy, the other half may remain, subject to the payment of interest at five per
cent annually, to be deducted at death, or may previously be paid off at convenience.
Thus a man twenty-five years old may, by an annual payment of L.28, 16s. 3d- for the
first five years, secure to bis widow and children, at his death, payment of no less than L.3000,
subject only to the deduction of L.144, Is. 3d, being the amount of premium unpaid.
