LIFE ASSOCIATION OF SCOTLAND.
©stailfrijeti 1838.
EMPOWERED BY ROYAL CHARTER IN 1841,
AND FURTHER BY SPECIAL ACT OF PARLIAMENT IN 1853.
CAPITAL, £400,000.
ANNUAL INCOME-(1857)-UPWARDS OF £120,000.
THE Association, since its commencement, has twice received the sanction and approval of Govern-
ment, after due inquiry into its constitution and the state of its affairs.
The Policy-holders of the Association incur none of the risks of Partnership. They are free from
all responsibility, and the Sums assured are guaranteed.
The Regulations have been all adopted expressly with the view of reducing the expense of Life
Assurance to the lowest scale consistent with permanent stability. This object has been effected
I mainly by the system of allocating the Profits — the share of each participating holder being handed
to him every year (in money) at the time of payment of his Annual Premiums. The Annual
I Premiums are thus reduced to a comparatively small sum ; Policy-holders having been for many years
required to pay only 13s. per £1 of their Premiums ; that is, instead of £20, a payment of only £13
has been required; instead of £10, £6, 10s. ; and instead of £5, £3, 5s. The benefits of this system
are afforded by no other Scotch Assurance office.
The Policy-holders participate at the first Division of Profits after they have been five years on
the books, and at every Annual Division thereafter. Until they participate in the Profits they may
keep up Policies of £500 and upwards, by payment of only One-half the usual Premiums ; the remain-
ing half bearing interest, and being allowed to remain unpaid so long as the Policy-holders please — ■
(see Prospectus.) Under this system, Policies of £1000 may be secured at the following payments
lor the first year : —
The rates for Non-participating Assurances have lately been re-adjusted and reduced, and One-
half only of the first five years' Premiums need be paid. The following are the first payments under
that system for Policies for £1000 : —
During the last four years alone, there have been upwards of Four Thousand New Entrants,
assuring their lives for Two Million Pounds Sterling.
