Arranged by street name
Street directories usually list a place's inhabitants alphabetically by street name and then by property number.
As well as the residents' names, the street directories would often record their professions.
Street name changes
Please bear in mind that street names might have changed over time.
This would be the case, for example, where suburban areas were incorporated into larger towns and cities. To avoid duplication of street names, streets in the formerly suburban areas often were renamed.
For places like Glasgow, which were heavily damaged during the world wars, the names or original routes of streets might have changed when they were rebuilt.
