Scottish Post Office directories

Parliamentary directory

Voters, Peers and House of Commons

Many of our digitised directories include a parliamentary directory.

This can range from simple lists of parliamentary voters to extensive information on, for example:

  • Peers of Scotland
  • Chief Officers of State
  • Members of Parliament
  • Members of the House of Commons.

Parliamentary boundaries

In addition, some directories give information on parliamentary boundaries.

'Fowler's commercial directory of the principal towns and villages in the upper ward of Renfrewshire' for 1836-1837 describes the boundaries for Paisley and Renfrew in straight lines from one landmark to another. It notes that these boundaries 'are certainly ample, and will not be complained of as cutting too closely on the outskirts.'
