SONGS
OF
BONNIE SCOTLAND.
BONNIE SCOTLAND, I ADORE THEE.
Bonnie Scotland, I adore thee,
Now I wander gladly o’er thee,
Thy enchantments will restore rne,
Bonnie, bonnie Scotland.
’Mid the rays of summer weather,
Sweetly blooms thy mountain heather,
Love and Beauty sport together,
Bonnie, bonnie Scotland.
Oh, bonnie Scotland, I adore thee,
Now I wander gladly o’er thee,
Thy enchantments will restore me,
Bonnie, bonnie Scotland.
Bonnie Scotland, land of grandeur,
Where the sparkling streams meander,
Here will I delight to wander,
Bonnie, bonnie Scotland.
Thou art dearest to me ever,
From my bosom banish never,
Ne’er again we hope to sever,
Bonnie, bonnie Scotland.
Oh, bonnie Scotland, I adore thee,
Now I wander gladly o’er thee,
Thy enchantments will restore me,
Bonnie, bonnie Scotland.

Description | Over 3,000 chapbooks published in Scotland in the 18th and 19th centuries. Subjects include courtship, humour, occupations, fairs, apparitions, war, politics, crime, executions, Jacobites, transvestites, and freemasonry. Chapbooks are small booklets of 8, 12, 16 and 24 pages, often illustrated with crude woodcuts. Produced cheaply and sold by peddlars on the streets, they formed the staple reading material of the common people, along with broadsides. |
