That Faithful Minifler of God’s Word
Mr. Donald Cargill,
Sometime Minifter in the Barony Parirti of Glasgow, who
fuffered Martyrdom for the Lord’s Caufe, with four o-
thers, at the Crofs of Edinburgh, the 27th July 1681,
and had their Heads put upon the Ports.
Being Angular for Piety, Zeal, and Faithfulnefs; but efpe-
cially fbr his foretelling future Events ^hat were to befa!
Scotland in general, and private families in particular.
Such as his foretelling,
The untimely and fearful Deaths of thofe cruel Perfecu-
tors, whom he had excommunicated at the Torwood.
Likewife an account of his Indi&ment, Trial, Sentence,
and Behaviour at the place of Execution, with his laft
Words upon the Scaffold before he fuffered.
In this you have alfo a particular Account of the great
Scarcity and Dearth which took place, when many died
from Want and bad Provilions, and when the Meal was
as high as Two Shillings and Sixpence the Peck.
To which is added,
A Part of the Life and untimely Death of Argyle, who
gave his calling Vote againft Mr. Cargill.

Chapbooks are small booklets of 8, 12, 16 and 24 pages, often illustrated with crude woodcuts. Produced cheaply and sold by peddlars on the streets, they formed the staple reading material of the common people, along with broadsides. |
