McKinlay Collection

Description

A collection of 17 items, mainly by or relating to, James Boswell (1740-1795). The collection includes a volume of cuttings relating to the research of the former owner, the Rev Dr Robert McKinlay (died 1933) of Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, on Boswell and his works. McKinlay was a minister in the Congregational Church at Pitsligo, then at Galston, and finally at Stonehouse from 1922-1933. He was a scholar of NT Greek, completing a PhD on the subject at Glasgow University in 1927. He was also a member of Glasgow Bibliographical Society, publishing articles in the Records of the Society, who had a particular interest in the lesser-known works of James Boswell.

Acquisition

The books were purchased by the Library in 1934 from the library of Rev McKinlay.
