Smith Mining Archive Collection

Description

A collection relating to the Miner's Strike in 1984-1985 and its aftermath. It consists of around 80 folders of press cuttings, typescript documents, four albums of photographs, printed ephemera, correspondence and nine video cassettes. The collection was formed by former miner and National Union of Mineworkers member, Patrick Joseph Smith of Tranent, East Lothian, who took part in the strike. The emphasis of the collection is on the strike in Scotland and in particular on the now closed mines of Bilston Glen Colliery, in Midlothian, and Monktonhall, in East Lothian.
