Description |
A collection of 27 volumes, mostly of Italian and French literature of the 16th century, but including one incunable, Martial's 'Epigrammata' (Venice, 1485), from the library of Professor William Lindsay Renwick (1889-1970). Renwick was born and brought up in Glasgow and did his undergraduate degree there. After completing a BLitt degree at Oxford with a thesis on the English Renaissance poet, Edmund Spenser, he became Professor of English Language and Literature at King's College, Durham University in 1921. In 1945 he returned to Scotland where he was Regius Professor of Rhetoric and English Literature at Edinburgh University until he retired in 1959. OrganisationThe books have been catalogued individually and have the shelfmark 'Ren.'. The incunable in the collection is part of the Library's Incunabula Collection (Inc.148.5). AcquisitionThe collection was presented to the Library in 1964 by Professor Renwick.
