Polish Collection (Tarnowski)

Description

A collection of 70 books and 66 pamphlets, which are modern Polish publications mainly on artistic subjects. The collection was formed by Count Jan Tarnowski (1900-1966), a well-known patron of the arts, who was from a leading Polish aristocratic family but was educated in England. After the outbreak of the Second World War he escaped to Britain where he joined the Polish army in exile in Scotland. He remained in Edinburgh after the War.

Organisation

The books have been catalogued individually and have the shelfmark 'Pol.T.'.

Acquisition

The collection was presented to the Library by Count Tarnowski in 1962.
