Inglis Collection

Description

The collection was formed by Alexander Wood Inglis of Glencorse (1845-1929), Secretary of the Board of Manufactures in Scotland and Justice of the Peace for Midlothian. It reflects his interests in Scottish songs and military music, though it also contains many examples of English songs and keyboard music. It totals 306 volumes, 27 of which are in manuscript, containing 740 items of the 18th and the 19th century and including many single-sheet songs. Inglis also produced some musical compositions of his own, publishing several piano pieces under the pseudonym of 'Alexander Selva'.
