A collection of Spanish-language books and pamphlets on South America from the library of John Hume (died 1935) of Edinburgh, comprising 114 volumes printed between 1863 and 1920. The subjects covered include history, language, folklore, costume, and the anthropology of Chile and Patagonia. Hume had worked as a bookseller in Santiago, Chile, and was a benefactor to the Advocates Library and the National Library in its early years. OrganisationThe books have been catalogued individually and have the shelfmark 'Hume.'. AcquisitionThe collection was presented to the Advocates Library in 1924 by John Hume. Ownership was transferred to the National Library after its foundation in 1925. |
