A collection of material by, and relating to, Benjamin (Ben) Hutchison Humble MBE (1903-1977), consisting mainly of his collection of newspaper and magazine articles on mountaineering and mountaineering accidents. Born in Dumbarton, Humble was a dentist who later became one of the first dental radiologists in Scotland. A keen mountaineer, despite increasing deafness which affected his balance, he wrote many articles on outdoor pursuits in Scotland. He was a keen photographer and film maker, and during the Second World War he produced several educational films in order to support the war effort. He was also involved in establishing the Scottish Youth Hostels Association and in the early development of mountain rescue and in the formation of the Mountain Rescue Committee for Scotland, serving as its accident recorder for over 30 years.
