Description

A selection of books from the library of George Hilson (1824-1898) a solicitor from Jedburgh, this collection consists of 79 volumes of general literature, theology and practical subjects. The imprints are mainly English and date from the 17th to the 19th century. Hilson's remaining books were sold at auction by Dowell's of Edinburgh in 1899.

The books have been catalogued individually and have the shelfmark 'Hilson.'.

Acquisition

The collection was presented to the Advocates Library in 1889 by George Hilson. Ownership was transferred to the National Library after its foundation in 1925.
