Description

Collected by John Haxton, a glazier and glass merchant of Markinch, Fife (1824?-1899), there are 191 works in 127 volumes, consisting of editions of the Bible and parts of the Scriptures in English, nearly all of the 16th and the 17th century.

Organisation

The books have been catalogued individually and have the shelfmark 'Hax.'.

Acquisition

The collection was bequeathed by Haxton to the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. It was subsequently deposited by the Society in the Library in 1934, and transferred to the Library's ownership in 1949.
