Haig Ferguson Collection

Description

A miscellaneous collection of 55 works in 131 volumes, originally collected by James Miller Heron Watson, and passed on to his nephew JW Haig Ferguson. Watson was a son of the eminent Edinburgh surgeon, Sir Patrick Heron Watson, and an Oxford graduate and keen book collector. The collection consists of British and foreign books published from the 16th to the 19th century, and also includes some historical works such as Jean François de La Harpe's 'Abrégé de l'Histoire Générale des Voyages', 32 volumes and atlas, (Paris, 1780-1802).

Organisation

The books have been catalogued individually and have the shelfmark 'H.F.'.

Acquisition

The collection was bought by the Library from JW Haig Ferguson in 1960.
