A selection of 20 items connected with the American designer, calligrapher, illustrator and typographer, William Addison Dwiggins (1880-1956). It contains a number of fine examples of early 20th-century book design and illustration from the USA.

The books have been catalogued individually and have the shelfmark 'Dwi.'.

Acquisition

The collection was donated by Miss Dorothy Abbe (1909-1999) in 1979 (an additional item was donated by Ruari McLean (see McLean Collection) in 1992). Abbe was an assistant to Dwiggins for several years up until his death in 1956, and then served as executor of his will and the overseer of his collected works until her own death in 1999.
