Description

A selection of 150 volumes from the collection of books and pamphlets relating to the county of Angus formed by Dr Alexander Thom Doig (1906-1983), FRSE. Born and educated in Forfar, Doig trained as a doctor but became a HM Medical Inspector for Factories in 1939, first in Leeds, then in Glasgow, where he remained until his retirement in 1970. He was a keen antiquarian and became a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. The collection contains books printed from the 1850s up to the 1970s, including a number of pamphlets printed locally in Angus. Doig compiled a bibliography of books relating to Angus before the sale of his collection, a photocopy of which is in the collection.
