Cuthbert Collection

Name

Cuthbert Collection

Description

A collection of over 750 books, pamphlets and periodicals by Scottish magicians or about magic as practised in Scotland. It was assembled over the course of a lifetime by the late Jim Cuthbert (died 2019), a practising magician, member of the Paisley Magic Circle and former President of the Scottish Association of Magic Societies. Nearly all of the items in the collection were published after 1900, though there are some photocopies of books on conjuring from the 19th century published in Glasgow. Other subjects covered include card and rope tricks, wizardry, sorcery and spin-offs from magic shows on television.

Organisation

The books have been catalogued individually and have the shelfmark 'Cuth.'.

Acquisition

The collection is based on two separate purchases by the Library from Mr Cuthbert, in 2008 and 2015, and also includes some donations by him.
