A selection of 491 volumes from the library of Professor Arthur J Beattie (1914-1996), Professor of Greek at the University of Edinburgh from 1951 to 1981. The collection consists of 19th- and 20th-century editions of classical Greek texts and works relating mainly to classical philology, with a number of volumes in modern Greek. The collection also reflects the donor's special interest in Linear B script, a syllabic script regarded as the earliest written form of the Greek language, and early Greek authors.
